Mama Cass and Her Ham Sandwich

"Mama" Cass Elliot’s death has been reported over the years as having been caused by "choking on a sandwich while in bed and from inhaling her own vomit." The true cause of death, a heart attack, was not determined until an autopsy was performed a week later, but by that time it was too late. Another of rock’s urban legends was born. At 5’5" and 238 lbs., Mama Cass was twice the normal weight for a woman her age and height. The effects of long-term obesity, drug abuse and crash diets had weakened her heart to the point of failure. Because she was a large woman, and there was a sandwich on the nightstand when her body was found, an irreversible connection was made. That it was a ham … Read entire article »

Love Rollercoaster

"Love Rollercoaster" is a song by American funk/R&B band The Ohio Players, originally featured on their 1975 album Honey. The song was a hit upon its initial release, reaching the top of both the R&B and pop charts, and still sees wide airplay on classic funk and R&B stations. The song uses the roller coaster, a common theme park attraction, as a metaphor for the ups and downs of dating and romantic relationships. While the song is known within the music community for its distinctive and influential sound, within the popular imagination it remains best identified with a persistent urban legend. During an instrumental portion of the song, a high-pitched scream is heard (between 2:32 and 2:36 on the single version); this was Billy Beck, but according to the … Read entire article »

Nurse Fired for Saving a Dying, Unwanted Baby in Hospital Basment Sink

Nurse Fired for Saving a Dying, Unwanted Baby in Hospital Basment Sink

I feel this has to be an urban legend or calculated story to turn hearts for sympathy… In 2007, a nurse goes into the basement of a hospital and discovers a baby in a sink. She saves the baby and gets fired. Supposedly the hospital policy was any unwanted babies that were born were placed in the basement sink until they died. The nurse is brought up on charges and she, in turn, tries to go … Read entire article »

In Brazoria, TX two slaves were unjustly hung by the neck from the limb of an old sturdy tree until they died. The ghosts of the slaves have haunted that area ever since. In the past, drivers of horse pulled wagons they said that their horses would just stop below the tree. A man who didn’t believe the tales coaxed his horse under the tree and the animal stopped in its tracks. He had to force his horse to leave the spot. Now they say that a car driven under the branches of that old tree will stall every time. There is a church not to far from the tree and one night a woman was walking home from the church when she heard a noise. She turned and … Read entire article »

Cutting the Squares

Back in the 1980s when red phone boxes were everywhere in England, the Wombles were number three in the charts, and Sylvester McCoy was Doctor Who; a young would-be actress went to an audition for a kid’s math show. While waiting to go in, she got into a heated argument with one of the other actors about how appropriate her neck-line was for a kid’s show. She was upset but it didn’t hurt her performance. She wasn’t successful, but then three weeks later the studio called and asked if she’d like to take the job after all. The first choice presenter (the young man she’d been arguing with) had died in what they would only describe as ‘a bizarre accident in a phone box’. She did six hours work, … Read entire article »

The Cursed Video Tape

The idea of a cursed videotape has been in existence for a very long time at my home in New Orleans, LA. It is a different version from both movies, The Ring, and it’s Japanese predecessor, Ringu… I heard the legend of a videotape that will kill you within forty-eight hours after watching it at a bonfire when I was younger. The story behind the legend is that these college girls are having a slumber party and go to rent a video at a local dealer. The girls cannot agree on a film, so one of them asks for help. The clerk states that she has just the thing and disappears into the back room. Meanwhile, one girl sees a box-less tape laying on the counter and reaches toward … Read entire article »

The Graveyard Wager

A group of young girls were having a slumber party one night and began to exchange ghost stories. One girl claimed that she heard that an old man who had died earlier that week had been buried alive in the graveyard down the street. She claimed that if you tried, you could hear him still scratching at the lid of his coffin. The other girls called her bluff and told her that she wouldn’t do it. They said she was too afraid to go down there to the grave that very night. They continued to challenge her and eventually she gave into the peer pressure and accepted the dare. Since she was going to go alone, she needed to prove to the others that she actually followed through with … Read entire article »
